But what exactly is a Hurdy Gurder?

Imagine a musical time machine that whisks you away to the days of yore with its enchanting sound! That's the hurdy-gurdy for you - a magical contraption that's part violin, part bagpipe and all-around wonder!

As you turn its crank, hidden strings hum creating a melody that's both ancient and timeless. It's like having a whole orchestra in a box, ready to serenade you with its quirky charm and historical flair!

Hear ye! Hear ye! Meet William Nixon - the Isle of Wight's only official town crier.

Will Nixon, has taken up the role of the Isle of Wight Steampunk Festival's Town Crier.

Will was in the Royal Navy and always wanted to be a drill instructor. Locals of Ventnor, where Will is the Honorary Town Crier, will agree his lungs are certainly up for the job, with Will a keen am-dram celebrity. When colourful people do colourful things, it's a good thing, and Will is certainly colourful, dressed in Highland tartan from his family's ancestral clan.

See Will around town on Saturday as he announces various events and attractions.
